THE LIGHT THAT STOPPED ME (2026)

The Light That Stopped Me is an art memoir written on the last day of Sicovecas’ autumn tour under doewa Matjan, tracing a decolonial journey between Indonesia and the Netherlands. weird walls (2025)

Indonesia is the largest archipelagic country in the world. Its ethnic groups, languages and cultures are diverse. Strangely, these differences are like pieces of a puzzle, each piece has more meaning if it is connected to the other.

Sicovecas has always felt this in his own world: graffiti. Why beef when you can unite thousands of islands in a simple celebration – drawing on the wall, shared with friends from out of town, under one name: Indonesia?

As an artist, Sicovecas has been lucky. Through his art over the years he’s been able to paint in many places across Indonesia, experiencing all the different cultures and visuals along the way. And with these new places, he always experiences something unusual, all the idiosyncrasies and celebrations of what is local. And often – if you know Indonesia, you know – it’s weird.

The book is actually a street journal, nothing more than a spontaneous outburst of thoughts from when Sicovecas has gone painting, digesting his surroundings. It is the diary of a guy sharing his love for graffiti and his country.

Through these travels, Sicovecas has gotten to know more closely the figure of the mother(land) that brought him into the world and raised him. It is these unique and strange experiences that he wants to share with those who host him, bringing them into his painting.

And Sicovecas believes what he does is more than painting. The desire to keep going & leave traces in these new places is a long spiritual journey that he sees as a pilgrimage. It’s strange but true, it doesn’t matter how small, or out the way a place is, they teach something to Sicovecas, so painting is his way of celebrating the life around you.

Even trivial tagging will remain alive once you die. Yes, this is a pilgrimage to worship life.

Weird Walls is all about this path full of friends who have drawn together, those fellow pilgrims who said hello and then continued walking. The goal is simple: to live the life that should be lived.
